8th Grade High School Information
Before you know it, graduation will be here and your children will be going off to high school. Now is the time for them to begin to narrow down their selection of high school and to apply to those in which they are interested. I encourage all 8th graders to go to any open houses and any shadow days that the area high schools may be hosting. On that note, I want to pass along some links and information for some of our area high schools. In addition OLMA came to Assumption on September 23rd. Holy Spirit High School will be here on October 26th and their Open House is October 30th. Spartan for a Day is November 17th, registration is required.
Please also refer to the letter from the Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Camden for additional information and a high school information sheet (attached below and your 8th grader has a hard copy). Return the information sheet by or before November 17th. It gives us permission to begin sending records to the high schools listed on the sheet.
We hope to see many of our students continue their Catholic education in one of our local Catholic high schools. For your students going to public schools, there are some things you need to know. If they are going to one of the public schools and are hoping to pursue one of the magnet programs, they will need to apply to a specific magnet program. Admission is not automatically granted. Students residing in the Greater Egg Harbor Regional High School are eligible to apply for admission to any district magnet program. Students not living in that area are not eligible to apply. Check the high school websites for information.
If your students are going to their local public school (no magnet program), they do not need to apply. They will, however, be required to meet with a guidance counselor at the high school and select their courses for their 9th grade year. You will need to call the high school and set up an appointment later in the year.
I encourage all of you and your children to check each high school’s website for new information regularly. I have included links to the area high schools below. Please remember your child only has 1 excused absence to visit or shadow any given high school; any additional visits will be marked as unexcused. I hope this information proves useful. Good Luck!
Kind Regards,
